About The Position

Assistants are needed to help with ongoing research on wildlife-habitat relationships and the effects of forest management in the Northeastern USA. The research assistants will work with AUNE faculty and collaborators at local NGOs and private landowners. The work will entail conducting bird and vegetation surveys in sites, often where forest management and silviculture has occurred. Work will entail conducting in-person point counts, point-intercept vegetation surveys, and surveys for beech leaf disease (20 hours per week, per student). Some work may entail data entry and management.

Requirements

  • Interest in research that focuses on wildlife-habitat relationships in forests
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent data management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to learn how to identify forest birds and plant species
  • Federal work study funds

Responsibilities
