About This Role We have an exciting job opportunity as an R&D/T&D Technologist in the Packaging and Specialty Plastics Characterization Department located in Lake Jackson, Texas. The role will require characterization and testing of polymer properties, specifically those relating to polymer molecular structure analysis such as gel permeation chromatography and high temperature liquid chromatography. The job scope will include routine and development testing with results and expertise being provided in support of multiple functions, such as research, development, manufacturing, and technical service. The selected candidate will collaborate with technical experts and leadership to continuously improve the characterization capabilities, transfer technical know-how across teams, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality data to clients. Lab operation efficiency and instrument troubleshooting will be a key part of the job scope, in addition to project work that will be conducted under the guidance of Subject Matter Experts.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree is required.
  • 7 or more years of experience in a laboratory required. This experience can be in a professional or educational setting.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in analytical is strongly preferred
  • Proven troubleshooting track record: ability to work with others through structured problem solving
  • Experience in introducing new instruments or methods into a laboratory workflow and training others on adoption
  • Deep knowledge of scientific instrumentation in one or more domains (i.e. chromatography/GPC, spectroscopy, rheology) including method development, calibration, maintenance, and data processing.
  • Teamwork: Works effectively with large, diverse teams to manage complex tasks by coordinating workloads, sharing responsibility, and supporting collective success.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills and Good interpersonal skills.
  • Problem Solving: Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Leadership: Leads initiatives and drives improvements by taking ownership, collaborating across teams, and influencing positive change through initiative, problem-solving, and inclusive perspectives.
  • Adaptability: A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
  • Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements
  • Adhere to Dow’s high standards for conduct in the workplace
  • Safely perform analytical testing on polymers using established procedures
  • Conduct complex instrumentation troubleshooting and develop fundamental knowledge that will be essential in trouble-shooting issues
  • Identify opportunities, propose effective solutions, and lead initiatives to improve the overall lab performance and delivery of high-quality data to clients
  • Conduct Research & Development projects under the direction of subject matter experts
  • Implement and adhere to quality assurance/quality control methods to ensure acceptable instrument performance and data quality
  • Implement new lab equipment and test methods
  • Conduct experiments to understand, communicate and continuously improve the capability of our methods and laboratory
  • Write effective operating procedures that follow all safety and quality policies
  • Collaborate across laboratories for test requests as needed
  • Document and report results to clients in a timely manner
