About The Position

As an R&D Systems Design Intern within the Neuromodulation business at Boston Scientific, you will play an integral role in developing life-changing medical technologies. You will collaborate across functions, contribute to hands-on problem-solving, and apply your engineering expertise to meaningful, patient-focused innovation. Requirements

  • Rising senior (undergraduate or graduate) in a Systems Engineering related degree (Systems Architecture, Product Development, Systems Engineering) or Biomedical Engineering with an anticipated graduation term between Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.
  • Able to start in early to mid-June 2025 and commit to a 12-week, full-time internship
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving abilities.

  • Prior experience (research, internships, or team projects) applying a systems mindset to define requirements, build prototypes, execute tests, and synthesize results into clear recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Participate on project teams to translate user needs into system and subsystem requirements and document them in specifications.
  • Support product development by helping design simple test fixtures, define performance criteria, validate test methods, analyze data, and present findings.
  • Plan and manage your own tasks to meet timelines; communicate status, risks, and blockers to the team.
  • Design and execute hands-on engineering investigations and basic prototypes; coordinate materials, equipment, and schedules.
  • Troubleshoot product or process issues related to design, materials, or manufacturing; assist with root-cause and corrective actions.
  • Summarize and interpret experimental results and testing; draw conclusions and recommend next steps.
  • Prepare clear protocols, test records, and technical reports in accordance with team standards.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the product development process through high-quality work and complete documentation.
