Why Join Us | DuPont Careers The Water Solutions Ion Exchange Resins (IER) Research & Development team is seeking a R&D Synthesis Technologist to support the development of innovative products, processes, and applications across a wide range of separation technologies. Our work enables solutions in industrial, potable, and power water treatment, as well as oilfield, electronics, nutrition, catalysis, bioprocessing, and mining markets. This role is ideal for a hands-on experimentalist with strong synthetic chemistry skills, curiosity, and a passion for problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Strong safety mindset with experience working safely with hazardous chemicals.
  • 2+ years of laboratory-based chemical synthesis experience.
  • Demonstrated problem analysis and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to learn new digital systems quickly.
  • Experience with electronic lab notebook systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management, multitasking, and organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership through influence and teamwork.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to independently prioritize and complete tasks.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Willing and able to work in environments requiring use of respirators, earplugs, goggles, steel‑toed shoes, and other PPE.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, etc.) or 4+ years of military experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute laboratory‑scale reactions, experiments, and application testing in collaboration with R&D, TS&D, and Manufacturing.
  • Analyze data, interpret results, and prepare clear, thorough data packages for communication to project teams.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation using electronic lab notebooks.
  • Uphold exemplary laboratory safety practices and contribute to safety processes and initiatives.
  • Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement of suspension polymerization and polymer functionalization processes.
