About The Position

Our R&D engineers are tasked with designing and developing implant products for the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group. This includes technologies that monitor, support diagnosis, and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. AIS provides devices and therapies for a patient’s entire continuum of care, from diagnostic to treatment. This division strives to innovate and create a paradigm shift that can solve unmet clinical needs and change what is possible for patients. As an R&D Software Engineer Intern, you will contribute to the development and testing of modeling tools that support AIS Firmware. You will gain hands-on experience working with embedded systems and firmware development in a highly collaborative engineering environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a rising junior or rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2026 – June 2028), graduating senior (May/June 2026 grad) continuing on to grad school, or current grad student.
  • Currently majoring in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ are required.
  • Strong programming fundamentals and debugging skills.
  • Must be able to commit to program dates May 18th – August 7th or May 26th – August 14th, 2026.
  • Has or is willing to organize reliable transportation to the work site.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.
  • Passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of firmware development and embedded systems.
  • Experience with embedded software, modeling, simulation, or test automation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Use your problem-solving abilities to perform meaningful engineering work.
  • Develop, program, and test modeling tools for AIS Firmware.
  • Support firmware verification and validation through tool development and automation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including firmware, systems, hardware, and clinical engineering.
  • Design, fabricate, and test prototype devices to address clinical feedback.
  • Analyze large clinical databases to inform device design and procedural technique.
  • View live and recorded clinical procedures and develop test methods to replicate use.
