The R D Software Engineer II position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) involves developing next-generation technologies to support operational situational awareness products.   • Conduct R D to support project-specific applications.
  • Work with researchers to develop and deploy geospatial software solutions.
  • Collaborate with diverse and multidisciplinary teams in research, development, integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, relevant conferences, and open-source communities.
  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the workplace.
  • BS in computer science or related field and four (4) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with programming languages (Java, Python, C++, etc.) or frontend web application frameworks (Angular, React, or Vue, etc).
  • Experience with cloud concepts and web development frameworks.
  • Experience developing software related to Geographic Information Systems or web application development.
  • Demonstrated ability to present scientific results to technical communities and at professional society conferences and workshops.
  • Experience with software development best practices.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment and adapt to changing needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated leadership ability.
