About The Position

We are looking for a R&D Pilot Plant Technician to join our Refinery Catalyst team in Gordon, GA. Come create chemistry with us! As an R&D Pilot Plant Technician for our Refinery Catalyst business unit (G-EV/RR), you will build a meaningful career supporting new product and process generation and implementation at BASF’s Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst operations located at the pilot plant in Gordon, GA. Operating independently with limited supervision.During your 8 shift plus overtime as needed as as a R&D Pilot Plant Technician, you will Perform Lab and Pilot process simulations to expand the current level of process and product technology. Develop expertise in operating various processing equipment including spray dryers, mills, ovens, and various mixing equipment. Support manufacturing trials at the BASF FCC manufacturing sites in the GA area to successfully demonstrate scale up and technology transfer to operations. Complete broad range of analyses to characterize properties of experimental components including development of new testing procedures as needed. Analysis techniques include particle size, viscosity, solids measurements, etc. Communicate and effectively document results of lab and pilot scale experimentation. Shift coverage as needed to support scale up and commercial demonstrations during plant trial execution. Manage maintenance activities and oversee contract work. Perform all work with a “Zero Incident Mindset” ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.

Requirements

  • Have a HS Diploma or GED with 5 years of applicable experience, 2 year Associate degree with 3 years of applicable experience, OR Bachelor’s degree with a 1 year of applicable experience. Laboratory experience or a combination of operations and laboratory experience in catalyst (FCC preferably), minerals, and / or kaolin or powder processing desired.
  • Are willing and able to work 12 hr rotating shift to cover plant trial demonstrations when needed (requirement varies based on project and stage of implementation but typically is on the order of 5% of the time).
  • Are able to lift up to 50 lb and carry up to 25 lb
  • Are able to travel (5% of the time)
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
