About The Position

You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks: The intern will work on a variety of projects supporting the materials characterization group, Alloy Development, and new product/process development groups. This experience will include but is not limited to: Completing a microstructure Database project Performing metallurgical investigations Operating advanced materials characterization equipment. Work will be conducted in the R&D laboratory and on the Manufacturing Floor.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics
Minimum 3.0 GPA
Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location.
Applicants MUST be US Citizens or Green Card Holders due to Carpenter's government contracts.
Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, able to work under direct guidance and independently as well as have high attention to detail and is able to work on multiple priorities simultaneously.
Candidates must have experience in the following: conducting materials testing including but not limited to metallographic prep and light optical microscopy (LOM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and EDS, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Mechanical Testing including hardness, tensile, charpy, fatigue and corrosion testing and gleeble testing.
