About The Position

You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks: The intern will work on a variety of projects supporting the materials characterization group, Alloy Development, and new product/process development groups. This experience will include but is not limited to: Completing a microstructure Database project Performing metallurgical investigations Operating advanced materials characterization equipment. Work will be conducted in the R&D laboratory and on the Manufacturing Floor.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location.
  • Applicants MUST be US Citizens or Green Card Holders due to Carpenter's government contracts.
  • Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, able to work under direct guidance and independently as well as have high attention to detail and is able to work on multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Candidates must have experience in the following: conducting materials testing including but not limited to metallographic prep and light optical microscopy (LOM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and EDS, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Mechanical Testing including hardness, tensile, charpy, fatigue and corrosion testing and gleeble testing.
