The R&D Manager at Werfen is a functional management position responsible for overseeing an entire Functional Group. This role involves managing and developing a team of technical professionals, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, and driving business results. The R&D Manager will report directly to the Senior Director of Advanced Development and will collaborate with various departments including Project Management, Analytical, Software, Quality, Service, and Marketing.

  • Acts as Functional Manager of engineering, scientific and/or technical staff for an entire Functional Group.
  • Oversees development and maintenance of staff's skill and competence.
  • Plans and supports professional development of direct reports and monitors their training needs.
  • Monitors performance of direct reports and manages human resources in accordance with company policy.
  • Implements and maintains Function's objectives and initiatives.
  • Develops and manages Function's budget(s).
  • Ensures adequate personnel, equipment, and material resources are available to meet project milestones across multiple programs.
  • Reviews Function's schedule(s) for assigned projects and tracks metrics to monitor development time.
  • Partners with Project Management to align Function's activities with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Provides technical support for investigations in support of development and/or on-market activities.
  • Assigns, directs, and evaluates technical and scientific work, providing guidance to direct reports.
  • Champions and promotes robust design practices and communicates technical information effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related field.
  • Eight to ten years of product development experience, depending on degree.
  • Six years of experience in Functional Management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in meeting all competencies of current level and acceptable performance history may be used in lieu of experience for internal candidates.
  • In vitro medical experience highly desirable.
