Join our team. #CloroxIsThePlace Your role at Clorox: We are looking for a candidate for the R&D Manager of the Microbiology team where you will lead a dynamic, collaborative team with an important role in the development of each and every product created by Clorox R&D. The Microbiology Group within AMS serves an essential role, building a strong connection with our business partners to providing technical guidance and microbiological expertise to current project and sets the strategic direction to ensure the team is prepared to meet future business direction as well. You will partner with and deliver results for all Clorox Strategic Business Units (SBUs), including Retail Cleaning, Clorox Professional, Foods, Litter, Charcoal, Glad, Brita, Burt's Bees, and International. As the team lead, you will set the microbiology strategy to enable growth for every business within Clorox. The Microbiology team partners closely with multiple R&D groups including Product Development, Process, Package and other teams across all stages of the development life cycle from concept to commercialization. The group operates in a new state-of-the-art BSL-2 laboratory at the Clorox Pleasanton R&D campus in Pleasanton, California (San Francisco Bay Area). In this role, you will: Set the microbiology strategy to enable growth for every business within Clorox, delivering on current project needs and upgrading capabilities to meet future business demands. Build strong connections with the Business Units on a strategic level and help them evolve and modernize their brands with a creative can-do mindset. Drive the microbiological expertise for Clorox R&D, with a forward-looking goal of identifying and championing new techniques, processes and organizational structure to deliver the future needs of our businesses to evolve their portfolio over time. Own and drive prioritization of projects within the Micro team to deliver business results and develop capabilities to our business customers. Identify, champion and adapt new technologies, tools and processes; help to develop best practices and drive continuous improvement in innovation and technology throughout R&D Own and drive prioritization and accountability with external contract labs and preservative suppliers, fostering current relationships and building new relationships to set Clorox up for success in the future. Be a part of, and help create, a high performing team that uses agile processes to deliver microbiological needs and consumer meaningful benefits and claims to projects. Lead a team of up to 10 Microbiologists and associate Scientists with responsibilities for coaching, development, technical rigor, and performance appraisal; fostering inclusion, diversity and engagement of the team while building bench strength and succession planning

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Science or Engineering required.
  • 6+ years of R&D consumer products or related experience.
  • Strategic vision with the ability to propose, analyze, and articulate short-, medium- and long-term scenarios for technical opportunities.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Can-do mindset to creatively approach the needs of the business.
  • Digitally savvy and proficient in microbiological work processes, including disinfection & sanitization claims and preservative efficacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a service organization in a large company: Ability to work within ambiguity and enable that ability in others.
  • Comfortable in taking & managing risk
  • Demonstrated creativity and passion for your customer
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leadership and peers.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and presentation skills, with ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders.
  • High energy, positive drive, and commitment in setting and meeting aggressive goals and enjoy working in a variety of cultures and settings.
