The Opportunity This position works out of our Plymouth location in the Electrophysiology Medical Device division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. This role serves as a critical finance business advisor and partner for EP R&D leadership. The R&D Finance Manager provides sound business counsel and enables the strategic vision of the business unit by advocating spending as an investment, not an expense. They will effectively balance business unit investment needs/ROI with division and corporate investment needs. This individual will interpret root causes to issue and actively seek solutions to problems through sound financial analysis. They will bring the numbers to life through forecast accuracy and presentation of financial information to non-financial audiences. This individual will focus on business strategies to achieve goals rather than report outcomes, while continuously ensure organizational alignment on key action items.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) in Accounting/Finance or a related field
  • Minimum 7 years of FP&A experience
  • People leadership/management experience

Nice To Haves

  • 15+ years of FP&A experience
  • 5+ years of people leadership/management experience
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • CPA certification
  • Experience supporting R&D functions
  • Medical device or broader healthcare industry experience

Responsibilities

  • R&D RLBE Process: Coordinate planning with functional leaders; develop and maintain data collection and entity submission templates; prepare and present RLBE summaries to BU leadership; update and maintain HFM data models.
  • R&D Monthly Performance: Update HFM data models, analyze monthly results, and prepare performance summaries for BU leadership.
  • NPVs/ROIs for New Product Development: Partner with Marketing, Operations, and PMO to model P&L impacts; assess and communicate potential cannibalization; prepare presentation materials for portfolio reviews and gate meetings with BU leadership.
  • R&D Strategic Planning: Coordinate planning with functional heads; maintain data templates and submission packages; prepare and present OEM summaries to BU leadership; update and maintain HFM data models.
  • Ad‑hoc Analysis & Support as needed across the organization.
