The Role: Our site in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking a Research & Development Intern to join our team for the Summer 2026 season. This assignment is intended to be 12-14 weeks in duration, beginning in May 2026. The R&D Engineering team performs research related to improving and optimizing the FOUP (Front Opening Unified Pod) purge. The intern will work on cutting-edge purge research, apply fluid mechanics knowledge, electro-mechanics innovation, CAD design, prototyping, and testing. The Advanced Materials Handling (AMH) Division focuses on developing wafer transport and processing products used by integrated device makers (IDMs), original equipment makers (OEMs), and wafer growers in the semiconductor industry. Our customers demand high-quality, consistent, reliable, and clean products to produce high-tech devices. What You’ll Do: Design various fixtures, tools, and aerodynamic features in SolidWorks. Use principles of Fluid Mechanics to mathematically defend a design. Design, optimize, and validate flow simulations for FOUP purge. Prototype , test , and iterate on various designs to achieve a desired outcome. Engage in cutting-edge research and data acquisition. Invent electromechanical machines to improve testing. Use Finite Element Analysis to verify a design and validate it using hand calculations (solid mechanics) Engage in basic circuit design and electrical engineering principles . Work with a team of engineers t o help solve challenging problems. Present findings to other engineers and upper management .
