About The Position

US Hospital MedTech, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Research and Development Engineering Intern, Summer, located in West Chester, PA. This is a full time three-month position which provides a student valuable work experience in lieu of a typical college semester. You will gain the skills to advance one or more projects in the Extremity, Craniomaxillofacial, and/or Thoracic anatomy regions.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates must be a current undergraduate college student in an accredited engineering program.
  • We are looking for candidates pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and/or Biomedical Engineering (Mechanical Design Emphasis).
  • Highly motivated and can work independently on one or multiple projects under general direction
  • Interest in medical device/orthopedic fields.
  • “Hands-on” engineering student w/ability to think creatively.
  • Establish and foster collaboration and partnership internally and externally.
  • Has a good sense of priorities and manages time accordingly.
  • Has strong communication skills (written and verbal), including experience presenting in front of multidisciplinary audiences, and attending team meeting face to face and remotely.
  • A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 is required
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
  • Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Entering Junior/3rd-Year level or Senior/4th-Year of college
  • Previous design experience on mechanical/medical devices
  • Technical competencies such as experience with Creo, mechanical testing, and medical device documentation.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • You will use Creo to design surgical implants, instruments, and test fixtures.
  • You will draft protocols for development tests and interpret the results, proposing design changes where appropriate.
  • You will support a variety of verification activities including, but not limited to, drawing reviews, tolerance stack analyses, mechanical tests, and finite element analyses.
  • You will have the opportunity to support end user assessments including participation in cadaver labs.
