About The Position

Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics / Electro‑Mechanical Engineering student with a strong interest in hands‑on prototyping, motion systems, and experimental testing. Motivated by developing practical test methods and building experimental hardware to generate repeatable, data‑driven insights. Enjoys multidisciplinary work that combines mechanical design, electromechanical systems, and controlled experimentation to evaluate performance and guide future development.

Requirements

  • Mechanical prototyping and fixture assembly using basic fabrication methods and lab tools, including assembling test fixtures and simple equipment
  • Test method development and execution, including defining variables, running controlled experiments, and evaluating repeatability
  • Hands‑on laboratory testing experience, including operation of mechanical test equipment (e.g., Instron‑type setups) and supporting validation activities
  • Basic CAD and technical drawing literacy (AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks preferred) to support prototype design and documentation [
  • Exposure to motion systems, automation, or basic controls concepts (e.g., linear actuators, motors, motion profiles)
  • Hands‑on experience from student projects, labs, co‑ops, or maker spaces involving prototyping or test rigs
  • Prior use of mechanical or materials testing equipment (e.g., Instron, 3D printing or similar lab instrumentation)

Responsibilities

  • Design and build prototype motion rigs and test fixtures to enable repeatable experimental testing
  • Develop and validate mechanical test methods to study cleaning speed, efficiency, and performance
  • Design and implement simple multi‑axis motion systems with controlled linear and S‑curve profiles
  • Conduct pilot studies (e.g., COF, cleaning efficiency) to assess method sensitivity and feasibility
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data to evaluate variability and repeatability
