Job Title R&D Engineer III - Aerospace & Defense As the R&D Engineer III, you will provide engineering support and technical guidance to material, product, and process development programs. This role focuses on development of aerospace materials for high temperature applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, or related Engineering field, and at least five years relevant experience.
  • Or: Master’s degree in Materials Science, or related Engineering field, and at least three years relevant experience.
  • Or: PhD degree in Materials Science, or Engineering field.
  • Advanced knowledge of ceramic materials and processing.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented person necessary.
  • Team player.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a DOW security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with high temperature materials testing preferred.
  • Prior experience with carbide, borides, and/or nitrides preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and scale processes for non-oxide ceramics.
  • Fabricate components, coatings and other prototypes for high temperature applications.
  • Collaborate with government, military and academic partners for materials development and testing.
  • Conduct engineering experiments on new materials, products, processes, and/or procedures.
  • Take a major role in projects to optimize and improve existing materials, products, processes, and/or procedures.
  • Lead individual project plan development, execution, and reporting activities to support CoorsTek project management activities.
  • Devise advanced research methods and documents results and procedures.
  • Exercise responsibility for multiple pieces of processing and/or analytical equipment.
  • Recommend new or upgrades to existing process and test equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations and Commercial sectors of the company, providing guidance in his or her areas of expertise.
  • Promote the company’s safety culture and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Direct the activities of technicians.
  • Coordinate pilot-plant or initial production runs on new products or processes.
