Job Summary General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), a premier provider to the US Department of Defense and allied nations, is seeking an experienced R&D Engineer II (Ballistician) to join our team. The R&D Engineer II (Ballistician) initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of technology research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products. Plans and executes applied research. Is involved in all aspects of the design of propulsion systems. Provides extensive analysis support during motor development, definition of analysis methods and tools, motor production support and characterization of motor properties. Experience in ballistics analysis of Solid Rocket Motors is preferred. Requirements

  • Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 2-4 years' experience
  • Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
  • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research, design, and development activities with the goal of developing new or improved products, processes, or services.
  • Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability.
  • Applies research theories, principles, and models when conducting experiments and research activities.
  • Conducts market research, tracks projects, builds spreadsheets evaluating trade space, designs presentation slides, and executes business-oriented tasks.
  • Summarizes research results and communicates findings to internal and external bodies.
  • Assesses the scope of research projects and ensures projects are on time and within budget.
  • Develops technical documentation for all projects.
  • Utilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
  • Initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of technology research and development projects associated with projectiles, rockets and guided missiles.
  • Collaborates with development team to define motor and igniter design and verify compliance to design requirements.
