EndoTheia, a rapidly growing medical device startup developing flexible endoscopic devices to improve patient outcomes and empower physicians worldwide, is currently hiring for an R D Engineer I to join their team in Nashville, TN. This position is designed for recent graduates or engineers in their first few years of industry experience who are excited to learn, grow, and contribute directly to the development of innovative medical devices. You'll work closely with senior engineers on prototyping, design testing, and documentation to help bring novel devices from concept toward commercialization.

  • Assist with the design and prototyping of flexible medical devices, components, and test fixtures.
  • Operate and maintain in-house prototyping equipment (3D printing, laser cutting, machining, etc.).
  • Engage in the design and prototyping of novel medical devices and assemblies.
  • Support benchtop testing, data collection, and analysis of prototype devices through the design of custom fixturing and test protocol development.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation (drawings, design history, test records).
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to incorporate surgeon and clinician feedback into designs.
  • Contribute creatively to problem-solving sessions and design brainstorming.
  • Learn and apply FDA/ISO medical device standards and design control practices with mentorship from senior engineers.
  • B.S. in Biomedical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field (or equivalent experience).
  • Hands-on prototyping or lab experience (e.g., 3D printing, machining, electronics, CAD modeling).
  • Strong foundation in engineering principles and an eagerness to learn medical device design.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar CAD software (coursework or project experience is acceptable).
  • Familiarity with finite element analyses (or a willingness to learn).
  • Experience interfacing with metrology equipment such as load cells, servo motors, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a small, fast-paced startup team.
  • Exposure to medical devices, surgical robotics, or biomechanics.
  • Interest in learning design controls (ISO 13485, FDA QSR) and risk analysis (FMEA).
  • Programming or data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, Arduino, LabVIEW).
  • Coursework or projects in biomechanics, biomaterials, or robotics.
