About The Position

R&D Engineer, Electromagnetics You will focus primarily on the application of electromagnetic design principles to the development and maintenance of superconducting MRI magnet products and technologies. Your role: Participates in multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative and best-in-class designs. This includes interpretation and flow-down of system requirements to sub-systems and components, concept design, technical risk analysis, and design review. Design of primary magnetic field producing coils and analysis of field uniformity using spherical harmonics. Designs and analyzes passive magnetic field shim systems and quench protection systems. Conducts detailed design, analysis, and testing of magnet components including eddy current analysis and calculation of magnetic forces. Manages engineering design changes including revising and reviewing drawings and bills of material. You're the right fit if: You’ve acquired practical experience with practical electromagnetic analysis & design, superconducting magnet design and operation, superconducting magnet component design, superconductor fundamentals and a demonstrated use of magnetic materials to shape magnetic fields, preferred. Your required skills include: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, use of electromagnetic finite element analysis, finite difference analysis or other electromagnetic analysis tools. Preferred skills: superconducting magnet design and operation, superconducting magnet component design, demonstrated use of magnetic materials to shape magnetic fields, quench propagation analysis, quench protection system design, combined electromagnetic and mechanical force/stress analysis, use of software tools – Mathcad, ANSYS, Opera-3d, Inventor, Spaceclaim, LabView, Matlab, and ability or willingness to learn to write your own software (C++, C#), preferably (also) in a modern scripting language (Python). You have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, required. Philips Transparency Details The pay range for this position in Latham, NY is $71,000 to $114,000. The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered.
