The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing in our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today's and tomorrow's power grid. We are seeking an R&D Designer to join our team, specializing in power distribution equipment. This position is based in Wendell, NC, and requires in-office presence 3 days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in R&D and design roles, specifically in power distribution or electrical equipment.
  • Ability to be on-site at the Wendell, NC location a minimum of 3 days per week.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Design Development: Create ideas and refine designs for power distribution equipment, including switch devices, switchgear, and circuit breakers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Technical Analysis: Conducting within the team simulations and analyses to evaluate design feasibility and performance, using software tools such as NX and Teamcenter and electrical simulation programs.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Direct the prototyping and testing phases, analyzing results to validate designs and make necessary adjustments to meet performance criteria.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation of design processes, test results, and project reports to support compliance and future development efforts.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with international cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and product management, to ensure seamless project execution and integration.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance design processes and product offerings.
  • Innovative Solutions: Identify and implement innovative design approaches and technologies to enhance product functionality, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Sub-Project Management: Lead project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring successful completion of design initiatives and alignment with strategic objectives within the assigned tasks.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and project updates for stakeholders.

  • The pay range for this position is $83,966 - $143,942 annually with a target incentive of 5% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
