About The Position

This co-op will provide an opportunity to be exposed to the medical device field and offer hands on experience working within the Research & Development group in an Engineering capacity. As a co-op in the R&D department, you will work with cross-functional product development teams and alongside experienced engineers, you will contribute to design solutions and the advancement of new product development projects. You will have the opportunity to use state of the art equipment and take advantage of training courses offered on-site. This individual would be responsible for building test samples, compiling, analyzing and reporting operational test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes or materials. You will be assigned to specific product and/or support teams.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/institution pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Polymer Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar field, and maintain good academic standing.
  • Only students in their Sophomore year or above will be considered for the position.
  • Academic requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or 4.0 for programs with a 5.0 scale).
  • Candidates must be available to work during the indicated session and demonstrate a record of leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities.

Responsibilities

  • Completes basic project/product development tasks including building prototypes, developing test methods, documenting new product concepts, and recording test results and assembly processes while actively participating in cross-functional product development meetings with Marketing, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Quality teams.
  • Creates innovative concepts, designs, and approaches for new products, processes, and test methods while designing, procuring, and fabricating simple tooling and fixtures to support development efforts.
  • Designs and coordinates engineering tests and experiments, effectively communicating technical results to diverse audiences with varying levels of technical expertise, and participates in company-sponsored innovation challenges.
  • Completes basic engineering documentation tasks and trains technicians/operators on new processes and test procedures to ensure proper implementation and knowledge transfer.
  • Proactively identifies areas for improvement, suggests practical solutions, submits idea records, and handles special projects as assigned by management.
