SHINE Technologies is seeking an R&D Chemist I to support the development of innovative solutions for medical isotope separation and purification, used nuclear fuel recycling and tritium handling research and development. The base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The R&D Chemist is expected to: Prepare samples and solutions according to general chemical principles Contribute to teams working on targeted R&D projects (including radiochemical separations) Learn, operate, and troubleshoot a variety of analytical instrumentation (including ICP-MS, LSC, HPLC in order to analyze samples generated within the Chemistry department and across other SHINE divisions) Perform emerging experiments as needed Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Radiochemical Separations: Perform liquid-liquid and column chromatography separations to purify metal ions, specifically focusing on the recovery of actinides and fission products from complex matrices. Gas Handling: Support experiments involving hydrogen isotope handling (e.g. tritium, deuterium), the development of materials for tritium storage and purification, and separation of Xe and Kr. Analytical Instrumentation: Learn and operate advanced radioanalytical tools, including ICP-MS for trace metal analysis, Liquid Scintillation Counting (LSC) for beta-emitters (like tritium), and HPLC Prototyping & Scale-up: Assist in the design and operation of bench-top and pilot-scale systems for chemical processing and off-gas treatment. Documentation: Develop and modify Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for handling radioactive materials and document experimental results in high-fidelity test plans
