About The Position

The R&D Chemist I will work with a small group of chemists and cross-functional teams (marketing, engineering, production, etc.) to research, develop, design, modify, test, and prepare chemical products and product applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or closely related field.
  • Strong understanding of chemical principles; analytical laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures; strong analytical skills.
  • Established lab experience outside of coursework.
  • Demonstrated ability in chemical characterization and problem solving.
  • Clear ability to communicate and present technical information to technical and non-technical associates.

Responsibilities

  • Drives and maintains safe working environments.
  • Develops new chemical methods of analysis for use on Hach instrumentation supporting research.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of a wide range of analytical techniques, methods, chemical principles, and laboratory practices during the development of new analysis products.
  • Develops formularies and quality control procedures for test reagents while working closely with operations teams for manufacturability.
  • Writes summary and status reports of development work.
  • Use initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods, such as those found in the literature.
  • Use statistical analysis and DOE as needed.
  • Build connections and relationships within the company
  • Keep supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-reaching implications.
  • Aid customers and Service Department to resolve analysis questions.
  • Adhere to the company’s Quality System.
  • Review reports written by others.
  • Support and travel to key account and selected field sites to determine market applications and needs.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word
  • Follow guidelines such as department policies, hazardous materials regulations and procedures, experimental precedents, and work directions. Recommend changes, exceptions, or adaptations as suitable to improve the safety, effectiveness, and performance of the department or company.
