The Quarry Manager is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of a quarry system that produces 650,000 tons per year. This includes managing three limestone quarries, a clay pit, and a pozzolan pit. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including quarry production, mobile equipment maintenance, and over-the-highway transportation. The Quarry Manager ensures that safe working conditions and environmental practices are adhered to, particularly concerning mine conditions and equipment. They monitor the total costs associated with mining activities, projects, and necessary equipment, preparing annual operating and capital budgets for quarry and mobile equipment operations. Additionally, the Quarry Manager provides monthly production and cost forecasts, prepares and maintains plans for mining sites, conducts surveys, and performs risk assessments of quarry sites. They lead the development and implementation of both short-term and long-term mine plans, overseeing mine planning activities and reserves analyses across all sites. The Quarry Manager is also responsible for maintaining all MSHA-required and mine-related documentation. They manage the mobile equipment used in mining and cement plant operations, overseeing the acquisition and maintenance of all quarry and cement plant mobile equipment, including supervising the Mobile Equipment Maintenance Supervisor and their team. Furthermore, the Quarry Manager manages an over-the-highway transportation system that includes both Company and Contractor drivers, fostering relationships with contract carriers. They drive safety, environmental, and risk management initiatives while focusing on efficiency and cost control within the transportation system. The role requires applying transportation management concepts to enhance processes, reduce waste, and improve scheduling. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Quarry Manager provides leadership and motivation to build a successful team, supporting team members in their personal development and skill advancement through training and coaching. They demonstrate superior communication skills, both written and verbal, and are a key member of the facility leadership team, contributing to cross-department objectives. The Quarry Manager maintains a high level of synergy and cooperative support with plant operations and maintenance organizations, identifying process improvements to enhance operational and financial performance. They also promote efforts to optimize reliability and maintenance through technical solutions by supporting studies and implementing projects, while liaising with geology professionals to establish relationships with geologists and consultants.
