About The Position

The Quarry Assistant Plant Mechanic is responsible for operating and repairing complex mining machinery and equipment, performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and ensuring safe working conditions. This role requires extended training and experience in the field, with a focus on maintaining quarry equipment and tools while adhering to safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Experience operating and repairing mining machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations in a quarry environment.
  • Ability to perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and operating manuals for machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Operates mining equipment including the crushing plant and rolling stock.
  • Conducts daily visual and manual inspections of crushing equipment prior to operation to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Repairs and reports corrected defects and routine maintenance performed to the supervisor.
  • Calibrates crusher's C.S.S each morning before crushing begins.
  • Performs routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of crushing plant and other equipment while following safety procedures.
  • Monitors the crushing process and communicates with the Plant Loader Operator regarding changes throughout the shift.
  • Learns and understands operating manuals for each machine and electrical schematics associated with each machine.
  • Keeps detailed notes from each shift and delivers them to the Quarry Crew Leader before the next shift.
  • Reviews and suggests modifications to work methods to increase efficiency.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Assists co-workers with various duties as required.
  • Uses hand and power tools in various manual tasks as needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of assigned tools, equipment, and service vehicle.
  • Responds to after-hour emergencies as required.
  • Attends staff and county meetings as required.
  • Attends training, seminars, and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Warms up the plant.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
