About The Position

Our Quantum Researchers work with teammates in the Mohawk Valley and across the country to deliver cutting-edge products to our customers.  As a Quantum Laboratory Technician, you will work with peers and mentors to learn and evolve as a task master and leader. This project aims to support research conducted by the Technergetics Quantum Team. This research includes developing heterogeneous quantum networks with different quantum technologies, utilizing quantum technologies for practical applications such as signal processing and detection, improving quantum systems with novel technologies such as integrated photonics, and utilizing quantum algorithms for improved information analysis and planning. This is an on-site, part-time position in Rome, NY, with work performed at AFRL and the Innovare Advancement Center at the Rome Griffiss Institute campus.  Candidates must be located, or re-locate, within a commutable distance to Rome, NY. The successful candidate is expected to work a minimum of eight hours per week. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet and maintain eligibility requirements for, at minimum, Secret access to classified information.

Requirements

  • This position requires, at minimum, matriculation in an accredited college or university with a Major in physics, applied physics, optics, microsystems engineering or closely related technical field.
  • Knowledge in physics, applied physics, optics, microsystems engineering or related field with specialization in quantum and/or integrated technology
  • Experience in experimental physics in areas such as atomic, optical, and molecular physics, quantum technology, or solid-state physics
  • Ability to clearly communicate advanced technical concepts with a diverse group of scientists and engineers
  • Maintain organized and detailed laboratory notes
  • Work well as part of a team, especially in an interdisciplinary setting consisting of professionals from different physics and engineering fields
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet and maintain eligibility requirements for, at minimum, Secret access to classified information.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate the following advanced laboratory equipment: stabilized laser systems, vacuum equipment, and cryogenic equipment including dilution refrigerators
  • Perform experiments including measurements of RF signatures of superconducting devices, trapping and manipulating matter-based qubits, characterization of optical systems including nonlinear frequency conversion systems, imaging systems, and photonic integrated circuits
  • Conduct team-based research, clearly convey scientific information through technical papers and presentations, devise novel concepts to advance communication and networking using quantum technologies, and maintain clear and detailed technical research notes
  • Support day-to-day operations of advanced laboratory equipment and planning/execution of experiments related to quantum networking, quantum computing, and supporting technologies
  • Provide key support to develop quantum networks for secure communication and sensing
  • Assist with tasking under the Quantum effort that may not be specifically listed here.
