About The Position

We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Quantum Lab Engineer to support the build, integration, and maintenance of neutral atom quantum computing systems. This is an entry-level role ideal for candidates with strong technical fundamentals who are excited to grow in a fast-paced commercial startup environment. You will work closely with physicists and engineers to assemble and maintain laser systems, ultra-high vacuum hardware, RF systems, analog and digital electronics, and precision opto-mechanical assemblies that power next-generation quantum computers.

Requirements

  • Experience with electronics, including diagnostic tools, PCB design and assembly, and soldering
  • Experience with tools and machining
  • Ability to diagnose complex, interdisciplinary system issues involving optics, electronics, RF, and software
  • Ability to follow laboratory safety and cleanliness protocols
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicists, engineers, and software developers
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision and quality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment
  • Good laboratory note taking practices. Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration
  • This position requires daily on-site work at our facility in Madison, WI

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with laser systems and optics
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) in 3D, preferably in SolidWorks
  • Experience with lab work in a clean environment and handling of sensitive optics
  • Proficiency in programming with fluency in Python preferred

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing and repairing analog, digital, and RF electronic circuits
  • Building and modifying opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting UHV systems
  • Writing and maintaining Python scripts for laboratory automation, data acquisition, and experiment control
  • Interfacing laboratory instrumentation via USB, Ethernet, GPIB, or serial communication
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and optical layouts
  • Performing precision machining and using CAD software for mechanical design or modification
  • Conducting systematic troubleshooting and root-cause analysis in complex experimental systems
  • Maintaining detailed technical documentation and lab records
