About The Position

The Quality Technician is responsible for verifying quality procedures on our production floor to ensure that all products meet our internal standards. This role helps monitor GMPs on the production floor and ensure that all personnel and processes adhere to proper Food Safety practices, addressing any quality deviations that may arise. In addition, the Quality Technician is responsible for performing routine checks on all packaging lines and reviewing and verifying all records completed by production and operations. The Quality team works closely with the production team and laboratory team to ensure the production of quality products in a timely fashion.

Requirements

  • BS degree or coursework in a related field is a plus (Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline), or experience in Quality Assurance.
  • Intermediate MS Office or Google Platform experience
  • Ability to stand for long periods and move dynamically on the production floor
  • Ability to sit continuously at a computer
  • Carry weight, lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Taste/Smell - the ability to detect and perceive fermentation and tea flavors and aromas
  • Ability to climb a ladder

Nice To Haves

  • Previous food manufacturing experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and recommendations to employees in production regarding GMPs, product specifications, and food safety practices.
  • Train new hires in the FSQA Department on key tasks and job responsibilities.
  • Monitor the production team’s adherence to GMPs, product specifications, SOPs, SSOPs, and food safety.
  • Conduct sampling and perform routine checks and testing on multiple packaging lines, including verifying packaging lot codes, correct packaging components, package integrity, carbonation, and cap removal torque.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions when production deviates from the Food Safety Plan and practices.
  • Furnish accurate verbal and written reports and shift hand-downs to the quality department and plant management regarding product and process quality and consistency, process capabilities, and Food Safety.
  • Identify and address GMP violations with quality management, production management, and team members.
  • Assist Operations/Production with creating Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Work Instructions and adhering to processes.
  • Review and verify all QA/QC records, including shipping & receiving, monitoring, cleaning, and all Process Control Documents.
  • Function as internal auditor to monitor the plant for compliance with FSMA and 3rd-party regulations and review for compliance with GMPs, performing inspections of the production floor as needed.
  • Support quality management systems, including pest control, chemical verification, traceability, and others as determined by management.
  • Identify and investigate non-conforming materials, place material on hold as needed, and communicate with production on all holds and product disposition.
  • Enter data into appropriate paper and digital logs in an accurate and timely manner, analyze and interpret data to ensure results fall within established specifications
  • Obtain and maintain accurate records to determine the consistency of product quality, compliance with regulatory agency requirements, and documentation of the Food Safety Plan.
  • May serve as a back-up for lab product testing, which may include operating lab analytical instruments for daily analysis, start-up, and shutdown procedures
  • Act as backup to the FSQA Specialist for crucial food safety functions
