About The Position

The First Article Technician is responsible for verifying inspections, measurements, and documentation on initial production parts to ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, and industry standards. This role supports the First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) process to maintain product quality and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in quality inspection or manufacturing environment documenting product conformance to requirements.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools and inspection equipment (CMM experience preferred).
  • Familiarity with structured FAI requirements and quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, AGILE, and quality software applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, and lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small parts and precision instruments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and electronic FAI documentation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to determine inspection criteria.
  • Complete First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) in accordance with AS9102 or applicable standards.
  • Document inspection results accurately and maintain traceability of all measurements and materials.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers and Production teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Verify material certifications, special process documentation, and compliance with purchase order requirements.
  • Perform dimensional inspections on first article components using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, etc.).
  • Maintain calibration and proper use of inspection equipment.
  • Support internal audits and customer audits related to FAI documentation.
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection and documentation processes.
