About The Position

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Quality Tech I, at our Torrance, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment. General Summary: Personnel are directly Involved in the inspection of raw material certification against industry and internal standards. The incumbent will use precision inspection tools (micrometers and calipers), industry material specifications, internal specifications and procedures/instructions in their activities to ensure acceptance of product to specifications and requirements. Incumbent may be required to use alloy verification equipment designed to verify the chemistry and alloy type of incoming raw material. Incumbent will use various computer programs to document the review and acceptance of raw material.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ year of quality experience
  • Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, industry standards and internal procedures.
  • Basic computer skills including electronic mail, word, excel, routine database activity, graphs, etc
  • Must be able to select and utilize general inspection tools and potentially learn to use alloy verification equipment.
  • Basic understanding of comparing industry standard specification and internal requirements with vendor certifications to assure compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Enter data into various systems to document review
  • Perform Dimensional Inspection of raw material using basic inspection tools
  • Compare certification, or what they gave us, to specification, or what we asked for
  • Active involvement in process improvement initiatives
  • Keep work area clean, safe and in orderly fashion
  • Comply with all safety policies, procedure, and practices.
  • Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
  • Participate in proactive team effort to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Comply with all safety policies, procedures and practices as it relates to office/production working environments i.e. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when entering production environment
  • Light physical activity level performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature (30 Lbs max lifting may be required).
  • All shifts may be required to work mandatory overtime to meet business needs.
