About The Position

The Quality Systems Manager is a strategic, hands-on leader responsible for driving continuous improvement, operational excellence, and quality system maturity across the steel pipe manufacturing facility. This role establishes, implements, and sustains a robust Quality Management System, internal quality audit program—reducing gaps in the processes—and partners closely with operations, engineering, and leadership teams to strengthen process capability, product compliance, and customer satisfaction. The manager ensures that quality systems, procedures, and performance meet both internal/external standards and customer expectations. This role reports into the Director, Quality or as assigned. Working Conditions: Primarily works within the production mill environment with moderate administrative office work. Exposure to heat, noise, and moving machinery; PPE required at all times. Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. May require shift work, including nights or weekends, depending on production schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Metallurgical, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field required.
  • 5+ years of quality or continuous improvement experience in heavy manufacturing; steel, pipe, metals, or oil & gas preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and API (Q1, 5CT, 5L) quality systems.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing internal audit programs.
  • Proficiency with Lean/Six Sigma tools (e.g., DMAIC, value stream mapping, 5 Why, SPC, FMEA).
  • Strong problem-solving, facilitation, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Preferred Experience in a global manufacturing organization.
  • Preferred Familiarity with metallurgical/pipe testing processes and non-destructive examination (NDE)
  • Preferred prior experience implementing digital quality tools or quality management systems (QMS)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, deployment, and sustainment of continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality function using Lean, Six Sigma, and root-cause methodologies.
  • Identify systemic gaps and process inefficiencies; build action plans and drive cross-functional problem-solving.
  • Support and track KPIs for quality performance, process capability, audit results, and cost-ofpoor-quality reduction.
  • Champion a culture of quality excellence, accountability, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Build and manage an in-house quality audit management system.
  • Develop audit schedules, checklists, protocols, and performance standards aligned with ISO, API, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Train and certify internal auditors across production, maintenance, and support departments.
  • Ensure audit findings are documented, assigned, and resolved through structured corrective action plans
  • Report audit trends, systemic risks, and compliance gaps to the Quality Director and executive leadership
  • Maintain and enhance quality procedures, work instructions, and document control processes.
  • Support certification readiness activities and coordinate plant preparation for API, ISO 9001, API 5CT, API 5L and other industry quality requirements.
  • Lead risk management and FMEA activities across key production processes.
  • Partner with manufacturing leadership to ensure process controls, inspections, and testing are effectively executed.
  • Provide coaching to Quality Supervisors, Quality Auditors, Inspectors, and cross functional Operators.
  • Drive improvements in product traceability, mill testing procedures, nonconformance tracking, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Analyze quality data to identify trends, deviations, and operational opportunities for improvement.
