This position is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all regulatory, client, and internal company requirements related to food safety and quality. This includes the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of established programs, procedures, and standards. The ideal candidate can operate with a high level of autonomy and have excellent communication skills.

Requirements

  • Generally, a minimum of Four (4) years in food safety and quality assurance with a bachelor’s degree in food science or related field.
  • HACCP and PCQI certification required.
  • Generally, a minimum of 2 years of experience leading and managing teams.
  • Working Knowledge of 21 CFR 117 regulatory compliance, food processing procedures, and GMPs required.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify trends in deviations, complaints, audit findings, and monitor data, and proactively recommend systemic improvements.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analyses and risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to adapt to changing goals to meet business and department needs.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement of department procedures and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of 21 CFR 111 regulatory compliance is desired.
  • Prior experience in a lab setting, industry or academic is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead food safety and quality programs, ensuring alignment with regulatory, client, and company standards.
  • Act as the primary food safety and quality contact for external parties, including clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally on incorporating new or changing food safety and quality programs.
  • Identify trends in deviations, complaints, audit findings, and monitoring data, and proactively recommend systemic improvements.
  • Design and execute monitoring plans, interpret test results, and lead investigations into quality or food safety deviations, including customer complaints.
  • Direct CAPA strategy and collaborate cross‑functionally to support effective implementation of CAPAs, ensuring alignment and accountability across teams.
  • Lead internal, client, third‑party, and regulatory audits to assess overall QMS effectiveness and compliance.
  • Support resolution of findings and observations identified during audits or regulatory inspections.
  • Maintain and update documentation supporting food safety and quality programs relevant to the area of focus.
  • Determine product disposition while considering client requirements.
  • Develop and deliver training materials to relevant departments to ensure compliance with food safety and quality programs.
  • Support product release activities.
  • Act as the site SQF Practitioner, PCQI, and HACCP/Food Defense Team Leader.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures supporting the SQF system and FSMA requirements.
  • Manage the internal audit program.
  • Conduct the annual SQF program assessment and drive cross‑functional resolution of identified non‑conformances.
  • Ensure SOP reviews, verification, and validation activities are implemented and maintained.
