About the position

The FSQA Supervisor works under FSQA management guidance to ensure compliance with Foster Farms, FSIS/USDA, and customer requirements. Oversees and administers the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) programs. Directly supervises and guides hourly FSQA team members at the processing plant. Responsible for assessing and problem-solving food safety and quality issues within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, supervise, and train hourly FSQA technicians in the monitoring, verifying, and validating food safety programs such as HACCP, SSOP, and pre-requisites.
  • Responsible for monitoring data and addressing processing, sanitation, and maintenance related issues in a timely manner via hands-on involvement.
  • Communicate non-conformances (product quality or regulatory) to FSQA and operations management in a timely manner.
  • Authorized to place non-conforming product on FSQA hold if it does not meet Foster Farms standards, customer expectations or legal requirements.
  • Work with senior FSQA management to render decisions regarding product disposition, including release or disposal of product.
  • Interface with USDA/FSIS personnel for regulatory non-compliance resolution and information requests.
  • Provide communication support (written and verbal) to production management team for establishing corrective and preventive actions in response to non-compliances.
  • Assist operations management in training new production employees to ensure competence with GMPs, food safety requirements, and quality criteria.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining current FSQA programs and adjust programs to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Maintain FSQA data reporting systems, communicating trends and root-cause analysis to management for deficiency resolution and process improvement.
  • Actively participate in projects (FSQA or operations) and activities to modify, retrofit and improve performance from a food safety and/or quality perspective.

Requirements

  • BS Degree preferred (preferably Food Science, Meat/Animal Science, or related science field).
  • Previous exposure to food processing, food safety, and/or quality programs is preferred.
  • Previous experience with HACCP, SSOP programs, and/or FSIS food safety regulations is preferred.
  • Detail oriented with analytical aptitude; exposure to Statistical Process Control is beneficial.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is of benefit, dependent on local, hourly staff.
  • Ability to make product disposition decisions independently and under the direction of FSQA management.
  • Ability to render sound judgment regarding food safety risks and/or product quality defects.
  • Ability to coach and develop hourly employees, former supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to travel for limited business-related visits (other plants) or conferences.
