About The Position

The Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring documentation required for Quality/production processes, and shipping product is accurate, complete and meets customer requirements, as well as deliver, work order and inventory management needs. This individual will support the business and will help establish strategies that streamline flow, remove constraints, increase velocity through the shop and improve inventory turnover, while meeting our quality objectives. This position is in Northstar's Quality Department and reports directly to the Quality Manager, with a dotted line reporting to the Master Scheduler. This position works closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance and Program Management to develop strategies/tools that will allow the team to execute on the site Quality/Operational Excellence strategy elements. This is a full-time and on-site position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Materials Management, is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years Quality Control and Supply Chain/Production/Inventory Control experience is preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes in a MIL-Spec environment is preferred
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing concepts in a manufacturing environment; specifically, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Visual Controls Kanbans, Supermarkets, and Continuous Flow is preferred
  • Ability to develop and manage digital visual controls systems and dashboards is preferred
  • Strong ERP (preferably CSI) and Microsoft Office skills is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to various levels within the organization as well as to external customers and vendors is preferred
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills is preferred
  • Attention to detail and process oriented is required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and risk-free production environment
  • Abide by ITAR requirements
  • Assist with locating missing job books or records on the floor
  • Process orders per ship list from manufacturing plan and verify accuracy of part numbers, serial numbers, revisions and specifications with PO, routers, and job numbers
  • Coordinate and manage cycle counts and inventory adjustments to raw material, finished goods, WIP, warehouse hardware stock, internal testing sample stock
  • Process shippers for gauges and instruments going out for calibration
  • Identify and communicate manufacturing release schedules that support the overall business plan and release materials to production work orders as required
  • Verify job books and ERP system comply before sending to any outside process vendor
  • Verify job books and ERP system comply prior to job hitting GI
  • Perform random spot checks of jobs on the floor to ensure jobs comply with QMS requirements for record accuracy and completion
  • Measure and communicate instances of non-compliances with physical and digital records to the operations team to address/resolve systemic issues as necessary
  • Coordinate/Maintain Records Room
  • Verify all jobs for the current month/quarter are running at operations needed/scheduled
  • Assist with creation of complete job documentation packages
  • Ensure all parts are identified and traceable in accordance with customer requirements and delivery dates meet the dates committed to the customer
  • Coordinate with Suppliers and Operations in establishing and maintaining a secure and readily available inventory of consumable tools and supplies for shop use
  • Coordinate with outside suppliers, vendors and other Northstar sites as necessary to support the manufacturing plan
  • Cross train as a backup, with the Production Control Specialists, in department activities to ensure adequate depth for critical processes such as: purchase order creation, manufacturing planning, etc.
  • Establish and manage an organized area for the storage of raw material, work in process, purchased components and finished goods, as well as Northstar, customer and government owned tooling
  • Ensure KPI goals (production, inventory, MRR/MRB, etc.) are established, communicated, and achieved; report on results as required
  • Perform daily transactions required to receive raw material and outside processing
  • Perform daily transaction required to issue material, manage splits, create packing slips and certificates of compliance
  • Perform daily transactions to support delivery plan with stocking/shipping transactions
  • Ensure that all quality requirements, whether internal or externally driven, are met and or exceeded, for production through final source sign off
  • Maintain personnel relationships consistent with applicable collective bargaining agreements
