A Quality Specialist I will be assigned to Optical Products and Systems (OPS) or Optical Sub Assemblies (OSA). This role involves analyzing documentation, performing process evaluations, determining compliance, and conducting statistical process evaluations. The position requires strong attention to detail, decision-making skills, and the ability to work independently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Ability to work any shift, including nights and weekends.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and positive communication style.
  • Must be able to pass a written, job-related test.
  • Math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Ability to read component drawings and geometrical tolerancing.
  • Experience with destructive testing in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to perform statistical process evaluations as directed.
  • Efficiently use measuring equipment, including but not limited to tape measures, calipers, verniers and micrometers.
  • Proficient verbal and written skills which allow for accurate explanations of all situations you are responsible to manage.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Possess the ability to react to changes of responsibility throughout the day.
  • Must have the flexibility to respond to multiple assignments.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English with technical proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years’ experience as a Quality Specialist 2 preferred.
  • Ability to work with conversion factors, formulas and other related functions strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Document Control Systems and Oracle is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interfaces with manufacturing, engineering, materials control, and management.
  • Analyzes product documentation, both written and through database tools, to determine compliance to customer specifications via multiple support tools
  • Audits the work of others in a professional manner.
  • Follows verbal and written instruction, accepts increased responsibility and is accountable for his/her actions.
  • Follows safety guidelines (PPE, etc.) and demonstrates safe work practices.
  • Maintains a good safety record, has a working knowledge of the behavioral based safety initiatives and accepts the responsibility to communicate unsafe situations.
  • Adheres to the safety and quality standards (goals and metrics) of the organization while working within a team environment.
  • Evaluate in-process work, such as production line setup and x-rays.
  • Perform mechanical and chemical destructive testing as well as visual measurement and evaluation.
  • While interacting with customers and visitors, represents the Company in a positive manner.
  • Drives job and process improvement within the department (through 5S as well as other improvement initiatives).
  • Responds to multiple production assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Overtime may be required, based on business need; regular attendance required.
  • Generate and maintain department process documents.
  • Ensure the integrity of the quality control Process
  • Assist in leading and the coordination of in-process quality programs
  • Meets required training criteria when requested.
  • Trains employees in applicable testing processes.
  • Solve complex problems affecting product using good judgement, and determine which issues require escalation to management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
