About The Position

The Quality Manager at NWI Defense is responsible for maintaining the highest standards during the sourcing and manufacturing of products. This role involves leadership of the Quality Control staff and focuses on continuous improvement and corrective action implementation within the forging and machining sectors. The Quality Manager will oversee the Quality Management System (QMS), facilitate quality improvement activities, and ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • ASQ CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) and/or CQIA (Certified Quality Improvement Associate) preferred.
  • Prior management experience in the quality and/or manufacturing field.
  • 5-15 years of relevant Quality Engineering experience in the Aerospace and/or Machining Industry.
  • Experience developing quality standards, methods, work instructions, and procedures for the inspection of manufactured products.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and CMM reports.
  • Proficient in using quality gauges, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, etc.
  • PC literate in a Windows environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of AS9100 requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with a full range of precision measuring equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Quality Management System (QMS) and applicable quality registrations, audits, and approvals.
  • Lead/Facilitate Shop Floor Quality Improvement activities including conducting floor audits and training machinists on inspection processes.
  • Lead Material Review Board (MRB) investigation/disposition process including Root Cause/Corrective Action activities.
  • Facilitate Corrective Action & Preventive Action (CAPA) activities, monitoring and tracking open CAPA activities assigned to others.
  • Maintain quality control and inspection objectives, coordinating with manufacturing personnel to maximize product quality and minimize costs.
  • Read and interpret customer drawings including GD&T and multi-level Bills Of Materials.
  • Perform advanced manual inspections with gauging tools and conduct visual product inspections.
  • Solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, including team building and collaboration.
  • Create/refine Manufacturing Work Instructions and Quality Inspection plans.
  • Review and approve FPI and FAI workflows, and review final inspection reports and drawing/specification change requests.
  • Record, trend, and present Quality performance/SPC data.
  • Create/refine Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Lead customer escapes containment and Root Cause Corrective Action utilizing advanced problem-solving techniques.
  • Provide training to employees on quality-related topics.
  • Interface with Customer Quality and Engineering Representatives.
  • Confer with leadership to help formulate fiscal budget while working within the approved budget.
  • Review company purchase orders for conformance to customer requirements regarding QC inspection requirements.
  • Work with suppliers to obtain information related to quality and vendor capacity.
  • Conduct performance reviews for personnel in the Q/C department as per the established schedule.
  • Conduct source inspections and schedule contracted source inspections as necessary.
  • Audit internal and supplier processes as necessary.
  • Make final decisions on product acceptability.
