About The Position

At KMEC Engineering and Conveying Systems, we design and manufacture a wide range of bulk material handling equipment. Our capabilities include overland conveyor systems, ship and barge loaders/unloaders, as well as radial and telescopic stackers. In addition to custom-engineered solutions, we also produce standard conveying equipment. As we continue to grow, we are currently seeking a Quality Leader to help strengthen and advance our commitment to excellence across our operations. The Quality Leader will be responsible for developing quality processes, driving corrective actions, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement throughout the organization. This will be your opportunity to build and shape a new quality function from the ground up. You will have a direct impact on product quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment
  • Understanding computer-related programs (ERP systems, file sharing systems)
  • Strong working knowledge of inspection methods, GD&T, and fabrication processes
  • Experience with root cause analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone, FMEA, etc.)
  • Ability to work hands-on in the shop while also driving higher-level process improvements
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, welding requirements, and work instructions.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in conveyor systems, material handling, or custom equipment manufacturing
  • Familiarity with ISO-based quality systems (ISO 9001 or similar)
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead KMEC’s quality program, including procedures, documentation, and metrics
  • Directly manage and mentor shop-based quality team members
  • Maintain measuring and testing devices to be fully operable and in good condition as necessary to assure conformance to technical and machining requirements.
  • Develop and implement inspection plans, work instructions, and quality standards for fabricated and assembled systems
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for internal and customer issues
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Production to ensure quality is built into designs and processes
  • Support supplier quality activities, including qualification, audits, and nonconformance resolution
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
  • Track and report quality performance metrics to leadership
  • Support customer/vendor audits, inspections, and quality-related communications
  • Communication with multiple disciplines
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer requirements, and internal policies
  • Maintaining an acceptable inspection system which assures that all Vendor delivered components are checked for conformance. Work Instructions for Receiving & Inspecting steel, hardware, mechanical components and shop supplies.
