About The Position

This position is responsible for providing laboratory support focused on sample preparation, image analysis, and report generation to support Production, Quality and Engineering functions according to technical documentation and procedures.

Requirements

  • Teamwork attitude with ability to work autonomously
  • Availability to work on nights and weekends occasionally with limited advance notice
  • May be involved in direct customer interaction as instructed by QA Manager
  • Ability to adapt to a constant flow of newly qualified parts/specifications
  • Previous experience in similar role in a manufacturing company, ideally with NDT experience/ training, and/or certification
  • Possesses technical aptitude
  • Technical drawing comprehension
  • Laboratory documentation and records management ability
  • Laboratory (metallographic) analysis performing and evaluation
  • Quality Management System basic training (based on ISO9001)
  • Practices safe working habits at all times especially with regard to hazardous materials
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, good visual acuity, and color and shade discrimination, the ability to pay attention to detail, the ability to operate a microscope, laboratory equipment, Blue Light Imager, computer, fax and telephone, the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares samples for laboratory analysis according to Production requirements and Engineering requests
  • Performs and evaluates metallographic analysis using a digital microscope with scanner and image analyzer according to qualification requirements and specifications as outlined by Engineering
  • Creates internal reports for metallography as directed by Engineering or Quality
  • Performs and evaluates mechanical tests (Tensile Strength, etc)
  • Prepares Purchase Requests to order lab consumables (grits, poly bags, resins for mounts, polishing suspensions)
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of all lab related equipment.
  • Creates and maintains training documents, and thorough documentation to assist with knowledge transfer of all job functions
  • Controls measurement devices, maintains calibration certifications, and schedules calibration service calls
  • Informs Manager of any issues with damaged or missing gauges
  • Acts as a resource to Production and Engineering for on-going open qualifications as requested. Provides input to Quality acceptance/approval criteria for certain products.
  • May assist with Non Conforming material problem solving activities
  • May be required to create Quality Documents for qualifications
  • Create parts certification certificates and communicates with customers
  • Manages laboratory documentation (storage mounts)
  • Receives, scans and maintains Material Certificates of Analysis
  • Supports ISO 9001 activities
  • Performs work cell audits
  • Assists with incoming calls & visitors
  • Is responsible for maintaining proper housekeeping standards (5S) within the lab
  • Provides additional duties as required.
