Carpenter Technology Corporation is seeking a Quality Lab Technician IV. This position involves preparing samples for analysis and performing a range of metrological services. The technician will conduct mechanical tests on specialized equipment, including hardness testing and tensile tests, and will evaluate product quality performance through dimensional and magnetic tests. Responsibilities also include preparing customer-required dimensional reports in accordance with AS9100 or similar quality management systems, collecting and recording test data, and making recommendations to site leadership based on this data. The technician will direct, train, and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Met Lab, participate in product development processes, facilitate product movement in and out of the lab, and contribute to quality audits and site improvement projects.

  • Prepares samples for analysis/examination and carries out a diversified range of metrological services.
  • Performs mechanical tests on specialized equipment, such as hardness testing, tension, tensile, resistivity, etc.
  • Performs dimensional and magnetic tests as required to evaluate product quality performance.
  • Prepares and submits customer-required dimensional reports in accordance with AS9100 or similar quality management systems.
  • Collects and records test data obtained during product quality evaluation.
  • Makes recommendations to site leadership based on recorded test data.
  • Responsible for tasks related to directing, training, and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Met Lab.
  • Participates in the product development process where it involves measurement methodology and dimensional requirements.
  • Facilitates the movement of products into and out of the Met Lab.
  • Facilitates the completion of quality tests and relevant training requirements.
  • Participates in and contributes to quality audits, both customer and internal.
  • Participates in site improvement projects.
  • Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • High School diploma required.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience.
  • Expert knowledge of quality principles, standards, methods, and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of metrology/laboratory equipment.
  • Shares experience with others to meet objectives in own department or area.
  • Acts as a technical specialist within own department or area.
  • Is a team leader; does not supervise.
  • Ensures a safe workplace.
  • Promotes ways to improve the quality of life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business.
  • Has developed depth and breadth of knowledge and skills in own department or area.
