About The Position

The Quality Inspector – Dump Body Installation is responsible for inspecting and verifying the quality and correctness of dump body installations onto customer or company‑owned chassis. This role ensures that all mounting, hydraulic, electrical, and functional components are installed safely and in accordance with engineering requirements, industry standards, and customer specifications. The Quality Inspector works closely with installation teams, engineering, and quality leadership to prevent defects, ensure safety, and support on‑time delivery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in truck body installation, heavy equipment assembly, or quality inspection.
  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical systems strongly preferred.
  • Skills & Knowledge
  • Ability to read and interpret installation drawings and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of truck chassis, dump body systems, and mounting practices.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and basic electrical systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Ability to use hand tools, measuring tools, and torque devices.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb onto and around truck bodies and frames.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to work in indoor or outdoor installation environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with dump bodies, vocational trucks, or heavy‑duty equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Installation Inspection
  • Inspect dump body installations at defined stages of the process, including:
  • Body mounting and alignment on chassis
  • Subframe and mounting hardware installation
  • Hydraulic system installation (hoist, pumps, hoses, valves)
  • Electrical connections, lighting, and controls
  • Verify correct positioning, alignment, and secure mounting of dump bodies per engineering drawings and installation instructions.
  • Confirm proper torqueing of fasteners in accordance with torque specifications.
  • Verify clearance and fit between dump body, chassis components, tires, cab, and accessories.
  • Hydraulic & Electrical Verification
  • Inspect hydraulic systems for proper routing, securement, and protection of hoses and lines.
  • Check for leaks, kinks, interference points, or improper fittings.
  • Verify proper operation of hydraulic cylinders, hoist systems, and controls.
  • Inspect electrical connections for secure mounting, correct routing, and proper function of lights, switches, and safety devices.
  • Functional & Final Inspection
  • Perform or witness functional testing, including:
  • Dump body raise and lower cycles
  • Safety lock engagement
  • Tailgate operation and latching
  • Verify operational performance meets safety and quality requirements.
  • Ensure all accessories and options are installed per customer order.
  • Conduct final inspection prior to release or shipment.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Read and interpret installation drawings, schematics, BOMs, and work instructions.
  • Complete installation inspection checklists and final acceptance documentation.
  • Document nonconformances related to installation, hydraulics, or electrical systems.
  • Communicate quality issues clearly with installation supervisors and quality leadership.
  • Nonconformance & Corrective Action
  • Identify installation defects, missing components, or deviations from specifications.
  • Initiate and track nonconformance reports (NCRs).
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions with installation teams.
  • Verify corrective actions before final approval.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure installation inspections comply with company safety policies.
  • Verify safety‑critical items such as body locks, prop rods, decals, and warning labels.
  • Promote safe work practices during inspections around moving equipment and hydraulics.
  • Support compliance with customer, DOT, and regulatory requirements as applicable.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Identify recurring installation issues or risks.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and production for process improvement.
  • Support audits, quality initiatives, and installer training efforts.
