Job Summary: The Quality Foundry Inspector ensures cast metal components meet strict customer specifications, industry standards (IATF 16949, ASTM), and internal quality requirements. Key duties include visual inspections for defects (tears, cracks, inclusions), dimensional checks using gauges, hand measuring equipment, non-destructive testing (NDT), and documenting non-conforming products to maintain high-quality. Hourly pay range is $16 - $18 depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, bend, twist, knell, walk for 10+ hours.
  • Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass respirator fit test and comply with requirements when working in regulated areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundry Knowledge: Basic understanding of casting processes including molding, melting, core-making and finishing is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints, technical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to identify casting defects such as sand inclusions, cold runs, stickers, etc…
  • Basic requirements in IATF 16949 standard
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft office programs

Responsibilities

  • Hot Pull Inspection: Perform visual and dimensional checks on forged steel parts immediately after they leave the furnace or press (often at high temperatures).
  • Temperature Monitoring: Monitor furnace temperatures to ensure materials are heated to the correct specifications, sometimes adjusting temperature measuring systems (e.g., Ircon).
  • Defect Detection: Identify surface defects like sand inclusions, misruns, cold shuts, and cracking.
  • Tool Usage: Utilize precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, go/nogo gages.
  • Non-Conformance Handling: Identify, tag, and segregate defective materials to prevent shipment of faulty parts.
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of inspections, test data, and material certifications.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend adjustments to production processes to improve casting quality and reduce waste
  • Perform all duties requested by the Quality Department.
  • The Quality Inspector shall have the authority to stop the process(es) under their control and shall promptly inform the applicable manager/supervision of the need for corrective action.
  • Follow-up on defective castings and report to Quality Management.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.
