As a Quality Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern's education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or other related technical degree.
  • Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2026.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly safety inspections and safety observations for the Metallurgical Department.
  • Work safely and assure plant safety policies are followed.
  • Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab.
  • Manage test equipment calibrations.
  • Create new operating efficiencies to maintain the production, testing, and shipping of steel with a leaner workforce.
  • Maintain Steelmaking spectrometer lab, calibration, and on-call support.
  • Responsible for data-mining investigations with metallurgical grade performance, chemistry, scrap charges, etc.
  • Responsible for Metallurgical grade maintenance and development.
  • Manage 3rd party testing inspection.
  • Maintain tracking of Steelmaking scrap, referral, and diversions.
  • Responsible for Metallurgical investigations.
