About The Position

We have a great Quality Engineer opportunity in our Brownville, NY location. This position is responsible for the quality of the product produced at the Brownville Mill, reporting the necessary quality metrics, leading quality complaint investigations, and driving continuous improvement.  This position will play a key role in site leadership through the engagement of manufacturing employees by providing visible support, fostering open communications, coaching, and development in a quality conscious environment resulting in a benchmark operations culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, paper science or another technical field is required.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed to enable success in working in a matrix reporting environment.
  • Strong problem solving, quantitative, analytical skills. Six Sigma or ASQ Certification a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong skills in various applications including Minitab, Microsoft, and ERP systems
  • Strong leadership skills, including change management
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation and training skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior related experience in a process-oriented manufacturing environment and continuous improvement processes such as Lean and Six Sigma are preferred.
  • Six Sigma or ASQ Certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to manufacturing employees by being visible, clear in communicating relevant information, and coaching to drive employee performance.
  • Accountable for maintaining accurate quality metrics and concise, professional communication with our internal and external customers.
  • Work closely with lab technicians to maintain test procedures and equipment; manage calibration program and upkeep for test equipment.
  • Manage products, specifications, and test documents within Quality Management System, performing audits and routine maintenance as necessary.
  • Manage non-conforming raw materials, WIP materials, and finished materials within the mill.
  • Responsible for the execution of the customer complaints process, conducting thorough investigations, corrective and preventative actions, and communication to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage outturn sampling and Certificate of Analysis (COA) process.
  • Analyze opportunities to improve quality and yield by engaging employees through continuous improvement activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement of site procedures and processes to drive lower customer complaints, higher efficiencies, and lower costs to the business.
  • Drive improvements through both strategic and tactical leadership of daily improvement, focused improvement events, and standard work processes.
  • Create and maintain a culture of respect, professionalism, and cooperation among the team.
