About The Position

The Quality Engineer / Inspector is responsible for ensuring that exhaust system components and assemblies meet internal quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory specifications. This role focuses on performing detailed quality inspections throughout the manufacturing process and creating, maintaining, and managing quality documentation to support internal and external audits. The position works closely with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to promote continuous improvement and ensure consistent product quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a quality inspection or quality engineering role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications.
  • Experience using common inspection and measurement tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar documentation systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in automotive or exhaust system manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience with weld inspection and metal fabrication processes.
  • Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, and basic root cause analysis tools.
  • Experience with electronic quality management systems (QMS).

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of exhaust components and assemblies (e.g., tubing, weldments, mufflers, brackets).
  • Inspect parts using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and go/no-go gauges.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy, weld quality, surface finish, and material compliance per drawings and specifications.
  • Document inspection results and clearly communicate nonconformances to production and quality leadership.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues.
  • Create, maintain, and update quality documentation including inspection plans, control plans, work instructions, and checklists.
  • Manage records such as inspection reports, nonconformance reports (NCRs), corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), and supplier quality documentation.
  • Ensure quality records are accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Support internal and external audits (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949, customer audits) by preparing documentation and participating in audit activities.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with manufacturing and engineering teams to address quality issues and improve processes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing process improvements to reduce defects and variation.
  • Support supplier quality activities as needed, including review of incoming inspection data and documentation.
  • Promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement on the shop floor.
