About The Position

At Saab in West Lafayette, IN, you have the opportunity to join a team that manufactures the rear section of the T-7A Redhawk military trainer aircraft for the United States Air Force. This flagship facility utilizes advanced manufacturing techniques and leverages research and development to support Saab’s broad product portfolio. As Saab continues to expand their team in West Lafayette, IN, we are seeking a Quality Engineer, with a Metrology focus, to help develop a world-class Quality function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Quality, or similar field required
  • 3+ years experience in an engineering role is required
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience with PolyWorks or equivalent model-based metrology software is preferred
  • Experience in the following systems/programs or equivalent is a strong plus: Hexagon/Leica trackers, Nikon APDIS, CATIA
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing interpretation
  • Experience designing fixtures and gauges
  • Demonstrates strong communication and a collaborative approach to problem-solving
  • Experience working as part of an international team is a plus
  • Experience within the aerospace industry is a strong plus, but not required
  • Ability to be self-driven and deliver high quality results across a global project team
  • Proven analytical and technical problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Create programs and report templates for use with Nikon APDIS, Leica Tracker, and Portable CMM arms to inspect aerospace assemblies
  • Work with Design Engineers, Quality Engineers, Quality Inspectors, and Metrology Engineers to develop measurement systems and techniques
  • Troubleshoot equipment and product issues
  • Prepare time estimates for repeatable scans and information gathering
  • Prepare and report key metrics related to part measurement and deviation
  • Calibrate and certify tools and measurement and test equipment
  • Develop solutions to emergent requirements during day-to-day activities
  • Support process development by integrating quality policy into procedures and continual process improvement
  • Monitor and analyze risk while preparing risk mitigation plans with root cause analysis and systemic problem solving
  • Train future team members in metrology principles and systems
