About The Position

Eaton’s IS AER FED division is currently seeking a Quality Engineer Intern. The hourly rate for this position is tbd per hour. What you’ll do: This internship is intended for a student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline. The intern will work on a defined project focused on advancing the digitization of dynamic seal flatness inspection using AI/Machine Learning algorithms at the East Providence facility. This role provides hands‑on experience with real manufacturing data, advanced inspection tools, and applied automation opportunities that directly impact product quality and operational efficiency. Improve and optimize the existing digitized dynamic seal flatness inspection process, including working with machine vision outputs and ML model performance. Understand, troubleshoot, and enhance the current Python‑based seal flatness inspection tool, including modifying scripts, analyzing image outputs, and implementing algorithm improvements. Explore, develop, and validate AI/ML approaches to automatically identify seal flatness characteristics and improve inspection accuracy. Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Operations, and Manufacturing teams to gather data, clarify requirements, and validate outputs. Support Quality Engineers in continuous improvement and digitization projects linked to inspection, measurement, and data automation. Participate in customer/supplier discussions as assigned, ensuring that data collection and inspection enhancements support product performance needs. Prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing project objectives, methodology, results, and recommendations to the Site Leadership Team.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering degree program at an accredited institution.
  • Working to advance level knowledge of Python Programing skills.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3 or higher (please don't round).
  • Relocation is not provided for this role, the candidate must be located within 50 miles of Rumford, RI.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
  • This position requires the use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
