About The Position

The Quality Engineer II specifies and implements in production, inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment, recommends revision of specifications, designs, installs, trains and evaluates quality assurance process statistical sampling systems, procedures and other statistical techniques. This role will assist management in formulating quality assurance policies and procedures that meet ISO requirements and are effective. This role also is responsible for conducting training on Quality Engineering, Assurance, and Control (QE/QA/QC) concepts and tools and interfacing with all other functions – especially engineering, purchasing, production, and customer service to prevent and resolve quality-related issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical discipline or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of quality engineering experience and statistical analysis in an electro-mechanical device manufacturing environment.
  • Experience conducting Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies (e.g Gage R&R).
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively extract, analyze, and report data as necessary.
  • Good documentation and communication skills, verbally and in writing.
  • Good multi-tasking skills and ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
  • Experience with electromechanical manufacturing processes, including PCBA manufacturing such as soldering and wiring.
  • Familiarity with effective preventive / corrective action processes & principles (e.g., 8D).
  • Familiarity with typical measuring instruments and interpretation of drawing and specification standards such as ANSI Y14.5 geometric dimensioning/tolerances.
  • Familiarity with sampling theory and standards such as ANSI Z1.4 and C=0.
  • Understanding of SPC and other quality improvement tools such as Pareto, Histograms, Scatter Diagrams, 5Why, 5W2H, and Fishbone Analysis.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite, especially proficient with Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and certifications in Six Sigma and lean manufacturing.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) from ASQ.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of product quality and reliability during the entire product life cycle.
  • Develop, document, implement and maintain various Quality Management System (QMS) processes in areas of quality planning, control, and improvement.
  • Review technical documents related to customer requirements and/or industry standards.
  • Assist development teams in defining qualification plans for new product designs to ensure that intrinsic product quality (including reliability) is acceptable for the intended applications and market.
  • Implement product and process control methods such as Control Plan development, Statistical Process Control (SPC), FMEA, and easy-to-use/follow Work Instructions to proactively assure quality.
  • Document acceptance criteria, including standardization of visually subjective elements of product quality for reference throughout the value chain.
  • Develop and implement effective, efficient product and process audit methods.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service, Production, and Engineering to develop effective quality data collection processes and systems for analysis and reporting.
  • Assess and recommend effective methods for material identification, status, and product traceability in manufacturing, including processes for effective containment of non-conforming/suspect material.
  • Analyze product returns and field failure data and build histories to isolate random cause from special-cause variation.
  • Generate reports that summarize the verification, analysis, failure modes and mechanisms, conclusions and status for returned products.
  • Lead cross-functional Material Review Board (MRB) meetings to disposition nonconforming material and drive root cause corrective actions to preclude recurrence of high-risk/cost issues.
  • Provide training and other technical support to other QA, Production and Engineering personnel.
  • Guide other QA team members on technical issues related to QA, QE and QC processes and methods.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities while working with cross-functional teams; may organize and lead improvement projects. Lead 8D correction action/problem solving teams. Conduct periodic product and process audits in manufacturing to ensure practices are in compliance with procedures and specifications.
