The Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN currently has an opening for a 2-4 year competency-based Quality Electrician Apprenticeship program. This program has been developed to meet the needs for qualified Maintenance Technicians in the Lafayette Facility, through on-the-job training and achieving a Technical Certificate through Ivy Tech. After entry into the program, the trainee will be required to accomplish electrical and/or mechanical repair and preventative maintenance for the Coordinate Measurement Machines, Adcole Crankshaft equipment, Tool Setters and other miscellaneous inspection equipment. This position will require close involvement with the certification and calibration of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). This position is responsible for writing purchase orders for repair components, making repairs and/or arranges for repairs with outside suppliers. Closely involved with ISO9001 process and the Corporate Gage System to maintain accurate records. Statistical Process Control training is required, and provided, for this position. This position is responsible for maintaining back up programs for electronic gaging in the shop. This position will support all electronic handheld gaging in the facility. Has responsibility to maintain optical comparators in the machine shop. The trainee will be assigned to a variety of training stations with specific learning activities throughout the facility that pertain to their skill path, and will rotate between first, second and third shifts as needed to complete learning requirements. Upon successful completion of the program, the trainee will be given the opportunity to become SG6 Quality Electrician within Quality Group. During this training individuals will be required to attend classes at Ivy Tech State College and complete classroom work. The classroom portion of the training program will take place on and off shift with a mixture being around 50%. Preparation must be made to work 8 hours on shift and then attend class when classes fall on the off shift.
