About The Position

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors specializing in large-scale concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation for highways and airfields. We’re looking for a Quality Control (QC) Team Lead to join our team based in Charlotte, NC. This role bridges both the office and the field, supporting project quality from planning through execution. It’s ideal for someone ready to step into a leadership capacity—mentoring QC technicians, coordinating with project leaders, and ensuring that our paving operations consistently meet the highest standards. While this role is based in Charlotte, NC, there will be travel to projects in Nashville, TN, and other future locations on occasion.

Requirements

  • 3 years in a role with progressive knowledge in concrete paving, quality control/assurance, or other related experience, preferred.
  • Currently hold or able to attain ACI Level 1 concrete field/lab certification.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel up to 100% overnight to job sites.
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain certifications for nuclear density gauge operation.
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain certifications for field technician, plant technician and mix design tech, as required for states or jobs.
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain other certifications to work in other states (e.g., TN, NC, SC, OH, VA, WV), if required.
  • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
  • Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience leading or contributing to a concrete paving crew at airfields or airports (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary QC point of contact for Charlotte-based operations, coordinating with field crews and project management.
  • Support the QC Manager in preparing mix designs, coordinating lab testing, and managing documentation.
  • Oversee and perform quality control testing for concrete production and placement, ensuring compliance with specifications.
  • Review project plans and specifications to anticipate testing needs and communicate them to field teams.
  • Work closely with batch plant and paving operations to monitor materials handling, batching, and finishing practices.
  • Mentor and support QC Technicians, promoting consistent processes and professional development.
  • Compile and summarize quality data for project reports and leadership reviews.
  • Build strong relationships with owner representatives, external QC partners, and Hi-Way Paving field leadership.
  • Participate in job-site visits, safety meetings, and cross-functional coordination between QC, production, and operations.
