About The Position

The Quality Control (QC) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the quality assurance processes and procedures throughout the mill. This role ensures that all lumber products meet internal specifications, customer expectations, and regulatory standards. The QC Supervisor works closely with production teams to implement quality controls, analyze data, and lead continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education in wood processing, forestry, or industrial technology is an asset).
  • Experience in a sawmill or wood products manufacturing environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or quality control role is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of lumber grading standards and wood processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with moisture testing equipment, calipers, and other QC tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Must be able to follow all safety rules and regulations
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, i.e., hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and reflective wear
  • Report immediately all accidents, near-misses, property damage, equipment damage, or unsafe conditions
  • Use proper lifting technique at all times

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily quality control activities throughout the sawmill, including log breakdown, drying, planing, and final grading.
  • Inspect lumber and wood products at various stages of production to ensure compliance with quality standards and grading rules.
  • Monitor moisture content, dimension tolerances, defects, and overall finish of lumber products.
  • Maintain accurate quality records and documentation for audits, customer inquiries, and regulatory compliance.
  • Train and support employees in quality standards, inspection techniques, and safe operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and management to identify quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead root cause analyses and develop preventative measures to reduce quality defects or customer complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and industry regulations.
  • Sawmill Supervisor – Back-up for Sawmill Supervisor as needed.
  • Attend all meetings – including daily/weekly/monthly Management meetings as required.
