About The Position

Capable of independently performing inspection activities for welding, stationary and rotating equipment, civil activities, structural fabrication, piping installation and painting and coatings. The Inspector must be competent in conducting visual and dimensional inspection for piping, strutural steel and equipment installation. Inspector must be competent in reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, codes and standards. Inspector must be capable of performing and/or evaluating Non-destructive Examination Testing, Welding Procedures, Welder Qualifications, Quality Plans and project specific requirements. The Inspector must be capable of reporting on all activities. The Inspector must be capable of troubleshooting or problem solving on behalf of project management. The Inspector will be responsible for exercising independent judgment in assessing customer needs and project requirements. The Inspector must be able to work without direct supervision. The Inspector will have the authority to handle atypical or unusual situations. The Inspector may be involved in long and short term planning. The Inspector may be responsible for investigating and resolving matters of significance on behalf of project management. Requirements

  • Education and/or Training must consist of one of the following requirements: An Engineering Degree and one year of inspection experience. An Associates Degree and two years of inspection experience. High School Graduate and seven years of inspection experience. A maximum of three years of relevant teaching experience may be substituted for two years of the seven-year requirement.
  • Level 3 Quality Control Inspectors are required to meet at least one of the following criteria: Seven years experience in welding inspection and/or work related skills. Current AWS CWI, and/or API 510 or 570 certification. Must pass, by written examination in accordance with ASNT-TC-1A, S & B's formal Level 2 training program RT, MT, PT, UT and VT as needed.   • Most instances will require experience in the industry, i.e., Petro-chemical, Refinery, Pulp and Paper, Co-generation, however extensive experience in other industries, utilizing the same or more stringent surveillance requirements will be accepted.
  • The Inspector must have working knowledge of welding equipment, inspection tools, testing equipment, welding consumables, carbon and alloy materials and related test data, weld procedures, NDE procedures, material hardness testing, mechanical testing, tensile and charpy impact testing, heat treatment process, positive material identification processes and procedures.
  • Ability to present information in written and verbal formats.
  • Must be familiar with computer for use in generating grammatically correct reports.
  • Ability to work routine math concepts required to perform dimensional checks, and operate inspection tools.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
  • Ability to climb, walk, reach and balance.
  • Must be able to pass an annual vision test with or without corrective lenses as well as the Jaegar J-1.
  • Inspectors must also submit to the Ishihara Color Vision Test.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Welding Inspection-visual dimensional verification in conjunction with material verification.
  • Dimensional verification during fit-up of piping and attachments, structural installation, and equipment alignment.
  • Will be responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving activities.
  • Must be able to make independent judgments based on knowledge that could deviate from established policies and procedures.
  • Witness Welder testing and verify lab tests for welder qualifications.
  • Verify weld procedure implementation for various welding processes for piping, structural steel and equipment installation.
  • Verify material and welder traceability for field fabrication.
  • Witness pressure testing and verify acceptable gauge calibration, testing pressure, testing medium, test duration, test boundaries.
  • Review NDE procedures in conjunction with NDE technician qualification records as well as witness Ultrasonic Thickness Readings (UT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Radiographic Film Interpretation (RT) for all weldments.
  • Witness and verify heat treatment processes, hardness testing, and Positive Material Identification.
  • Verify weld consumables (wire, flux, electrodes), storage compliance and welding procedure compliance.
  • Inspect all phases of welding preparation from beveling to final pass.
  • Weld map all welding activities.
  • Perform pre-hydro and post-hydro punch list inspections and report findings.
  • Monitor welder’s performance, testing, reject rates and repairs.
  • Ability to perform receiving inspection on all materials delivered at the field location.
  • Must be knowledgeable about rotating and stationary equipment, installations, alignment and testing.
  • Must be familiar with Civil codes, concrete work, earthwork, underground piping, etc.
  • Must be familiar with coating inspections to include painting, galvanizing, pipe wrap, insulation and fireproofing.
  • Must have enough knowledge about Electrical and Instrumentation to verify proper installation, clearances, and usage.
  • Must be familiar with all aspects of NDE.
  • Must be able to read and interpret client specifications, industry codes and federal regulations.
  • The Inspector must be competent in conducting visual and dimensional examinations and reporting in a clear, concise manner.
  • The Inspector must be qualified to read and understand drawings and specifications, witness NDT, hydrostatic testing, conduct welders testing, and review and maintain test records.
  • Additionally, the Level 3 Inspector must review and understand qualification records for NDT technicians and test equipment calibration requirements.
  • Experienced in material heat treating technologies and alloy material testing techniques and specifications for pipe, plate, valves and structural steel for ASTM, ASME, API, NACE, ANSI, and related Industry codes and standards.
